Before this last season, RJ Barrett was once seen as the clear-cut favorite to be the #1 pick in Thursday’s draft. A lot has changed in a year, but RJ is still an elite prospect. The 6-7, Canadian averaged 22.6 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 4.3 APG while shooting 45% from the field and 30% from 3. RJ was also a consensus First Team All-American. RJ helped Duke to the 1st overall seed, which led to an Elite 8 run and an eventual loss to Michigan State.

Strengths: plays with a lot energy… excellent footwork in the paint (finishing and pivoting)… strong… aggressive… physical… good finisher… good body control in paint… good in open court… good court vision… high basketball IQ… good defender… decent catch and shoot…

Weaknesses: bad 3 point shot… doesn’t play above rim much… poor ball control… doesn’t rotate on defense… poor shooter off dribble… non-accurate passer… tries to play “hero” ball…

Overall, I think Barrett has potential to be a great player in the league. All of his weaknesses are easily fixable. I think right now, he can average 15-17 PPG, but with a developed jumper, I can see him averaging 22-25 PPG. Right now, he is projected 3rd to the Knicks, so we’ll have to wait and see.
