The Atlanta Legends win again, for the second week in a row! Now improving to a 2-3 record after their most recent win Sunday over the Memphis Express. New starting QB Aaron Murray proves to be the key to the Legends recent success.
The Atlanta defense hit the field first, and picked up right where they left off. Forcing Memphis to go three and out and punt on the very first drive of the game. Not to mention how many defensive starters were out this week. DB Damian Swann remains inactive, and hopefully he makes his return soon. Starting Safety Ed Reynolds II and starting DE Tavaris Barnes were both injured and missed this game. Allowing us to see some names we may not be familiar with. Recent signee DL Antonio Simmons racked up 3 solo tackles, and 1 tackle for loss. DB Louis Young made his Legends debut and recorded a tackle as well. If we learned anything about this defense this weekend is that they are very deep on the depth chart and can survive when star players are out. A guy who really made a name for himself Sunday was LB Dylan Donahue. He did a great job getting to the quarterback and recorded 1.5 sacks. All in all, this Atlanta defense only allowed 217 total yards, 158 through the air, and only 59 on the ground! Huge turnaround with the rush defense from this week to last. Atlanta held Memphis to 1-9 on third down, and forced two turnovers, both by star Safety Tyson Graham Jr. Tyson racked up four more tackles, one interception, and a forced fumble to seal the game.
The new look Atlanta offense under recent hire Ken Zampese has turned things around completely on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Aaron Murray had another great game going 27-43 for 306 yards, and a touchdown. Murray and the entire Atlanta offense was clutch on 3rd down going 10-18. Offensively racked up 410 total yards and dominated time of possession again 38:37-21:23. Atlanta only put 129 rushing yards up, but don’t let that stat fool you from how starting RB Tarean Folston’s day went. He went off. 83 rushing yards on 11 carries, with a touchdown, and 23 yards receiving on 6 catches and another touchdown. 106 total all purpose yards, and 2 total touchdowns. Wide Receiver Seantavious Jones had himself a day as well with 89 yards on 5 receptions, and TE Bug Howard picked up 59 yards on 3 receptions as well. Another solid performance out of this Atlanta offense.
And the third, and maybe most important phase of this team is the rock solid Special Teams play we’ve seen all season long. Kicker Younghoe Koo went 3/3 on Field Goal’s including his second game winner in two weeks for the Legends. He’s a perfect 11/11 this season.
The Legends are back home next weekend Sunday March the 17th at 4pm ET against the top team in the Western Conference, the San Antonio Commanders. Catch the action live on CBS Sports Network or in person at beautiful Georgia State Stadium.
