It turns out that the best running back on the field tonight was not Todd Gurley or Ezekiel Elliott. In fact it turns out that it was none other than Rams’ running back, C.J Anderson. Anderson punished the Cowboys all night long racking up 123 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Rams beat the Cowboys 30-22. He now has his Rams in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.
Anderson was released by the Denver Broncos during the offseason and was signed by the Carolina Panthers who didn’t use him as much as they intended to. Then he was released again and picked up by the Oakland Raiders who also didn’t use him well. Finally, the Rams signed him after Gurley went down.
In his first game with the Rams against the Cardinals, all Anderson did was rush for 167 yards and a touchdown. Then, the next week against the 49ers he rushed for another 132 yards and another score. Anderson returned to his prime form and has been the bowling ball we’ve all known him to be. Sean McVay has given C.J. Anderson new life and tonight he proved that he can still carry the load.
As the Rams now prepare for the NFC Title game, we can expect to see a lot of Anderson next week. He and Todd Gurley appear to be the new thunder and lightning.
